Having Fun

Friends of JCDS Fosters Joy and Friendship through Social & Recreational Activities

Nobody wants a life with all work and no play, so Friends of JCDS nurtures outlets for celebration, friendship and fun! Whether it be monthly birthday parties, quarterly dances, or the gigantic Dorothy K. Dorfman annual picnic, every social occasion brings people with developmental disabilities out from the shadow of social isolation and into the bright light of joyful celebration shared by all.

Enriching Life

Friends of JCDS Expands Opportunities to Experience and Explore Life

Over the past few years, expansion of Life Enrichment at JCDS has received a huge boost from grant funds awarded by Friends. This program offers alternatives to a traditional work day with emphasis on community inclusion, volunteerism, building relationships, education, and creative expression.

Under staff guidance, Life Enrichment participants enjoy a wide range of leisure activities and benefit from educational programs. Where money is tight, Friends steps in to help pay admission fees to community events.

Having Fun
With the help of Friends, Life Enrichment participants are exploring their community, learning to “give back” through volunteer work and discovering who they are, where their talents lie and how to more fully experience the world around them.
