Friends of JCDS Opens the Door to Barrier-Free Living

Finding an affordable, barrier-free place to live is a tremendous challenge for people with physical as well as mental disabilities. Since 2000, the Friends of JCDS has been doing its part to make more homes accessible for individuals served by JCDS who use wheelchairs.

By joining forces with JCDS and Johnson County government, Friends has purchased and renovated 10 ranch-style homes to remove the physical barriers that make independent living difficult. These homes have now opened the door to greater self-sufficiency for 41 Johnson County residents who require a more accessible environment.
